Merwida Country Lodge provides you with the perfect romantic venue for an unforgettable stay or to host your wedding or any other celebratory function. The American Colonial grand old house is based in Rawsonville, surrounded by vineyards and the majestic mountains of the Breede Valley.
The dramatic driveway, the spectacular staircase and impressive entrance hall creates a magnificent ambiance and setting. The huge rooms are decorated to complement the gilt details and high pressed ceilings. This venue is perfect for weddings, functions, conferences, photo shoots or a peaceful rest away from home.
The Merwida Mansion was built in the 1970’s by the late Cecil Morgan, for residential purposes. It was renovated and enlarged in 1978, over a period of 2 years, whilst serving as a home to Carel and Cecile van der Merwe and their 5 children. It is known that the mistress of the manor used the setting of the Classical Motion Picture, Gone with The Wind, starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as an inspiration for this typical Colonial American mansion. This mansion was well known by the locals and “famous”.
The “old world charm” of the property extended itself to the perfect location to host romantic unforgettable weddings and functions. Merwida Country Lodge started hosting weddings in 1997 and has become a well-know and loved venue.
